Teaching at a School in Nepal

This program provides volunteers with a chance to teach different subjects: English, Science, Math, Social Science, and Environmental Science.  Available subjects vary depending on the specific school and its current curriculum.  English is the most common need in our government schools.

Work & Impacts

Depending on the school, volunteers will teach classes independently or with another Nepali teacher for your assistance.  Volunteers in this program will teach 45-minute classes anywhere from 2-4 hours a day, six days a week (Saturday is the holiday).  Volunteers generally create programs to stimulate classroom lessons and improve the students’ conversational English through various teaching methods.

Upon placement in this program, volunteers will be given guidance on effective teaching in the Nepali style, although the volunteers can demonstrate new models of teaching and may implement their methods upon approval by the school teachers. Prior to the placement, volunteers will receive Nepali language and cultural training. During this program, volunteers will stay near the school with a local Nepali family. After your time volunteering at the school is complete; volunteers, students, and school staff can exchange contact information to keep in touch and continue your new lifelong friendships.
